Hurdler Classic is the original version of the now popular Hurdler for the iPhone. While Hurdler Classic may not have any touchscreen gimmicks like its sequel, it still holds up as a highly addictive coffee break game.
The goal is simple, help the Hurdler jump over the various obstacles in his path until he reaches the yellow balloon at the end of each level. To do this you use four different jump styles: Normal, High, Long, and Short, each being linked to an arrow key. The obstacles in each level are placed in such a way where typically only one jump style will allow you to proceed.
The Hurdler automatically runs at a constant pace so you often have to think fast (or slow in my case) to determine what the proper jump is. As you have probably guessed, it's not as easy as it sounds. While a high jump may get you over obstacle A, only a short jump will get you over and still give you enough time to setup for obstacle B.
For me, Hurdler Classic is a game of trial and error. I have issues gauging which jump is appropriate, but that's the beauty of it. The premise is so simple yet extremely difficult to master.
With over 30 classic levels and an additional 30 bonus levels, as well as an online high score table, you're sure to kill many coffee breaks with this ingenious little puzzle-platformer.
